Shimina Harris, Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Student Conduct, San Francisco State University

Shimina HarrisWorking in Higher Education is certainly something Shimina Harris fell into and as she puts it, “has been unable to leave.”  As the Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Student Conduct at San Francisco State University, she has had the opportunity to oversee three “new to me” areas of Student Affairs: Student Conduct, Career Services, and the AB 540 Program that works with undocumented students. This path has allowed Shimina to highlight her strengths as “one who builds authentic and strategic relationships, manages staff while holding them accountable,” all while writing policy, building a culture of evidence through thoughtful assessment plans, and empowering staff and students to be excellent.  Over the years, Shimina has found a natural fit into HR and continues to look forward to translating her skills (both soft and hard) to the human resources environment.
